If you don't cock your pistol correctly, it's gonna hurt you.

This weekend my kidlets spent time with me and Mr. Wonderful at our little house in the woods.  We burned lots of wood, shot the guns, fished, got dirty...typical country stuff. I was going to show my girlies how to shoot my pistol but it had been a while since I had shot and I was a bit rusty. I tried to cock the gun but I was holding it wrong and ended up pinching the heck fire out of my hand.

You see that tiny little blood bump? Well, that sucker hurts soooooo much. That's all I have to show for it even though there was a lot more flesh that got pinched. Even though my pistol is small, when the slide slams into the firing position the force is great. So much for impressing my kids with my awesome gun skills. I guess I'm better suited for posing with the gun, while trying to look cool.

At least that way I won't get my hand pinched and have it hurt for days on end. The kids had a good time I think. After shooting the little guns, we brought out the real firearms. Manchild finally got kidlet #2 to shoot the rifle and now she's a tough part-time redneck! Yay for her!!!

Yep, that's my little 12 year old firing off rounds from an M16. She's a bit young to want manicured nails but once she's older, I'm sure she'll be firing big guns with great nails. You can't take the city all the way out of these new country girls!
